Path of Exile or short PoE is a hack–and–slash game that is happening in Wraeclast and tells a story of a titled exiled character you are choosing to start the game.

PoE Beginners Guide – The Very Beginning

The game starts even before launching the game. First of all, you will need an item filter to prevent items from flooding the screen.

This one you can find right there. Remember that for every new league the filter will get updated and it will be around an hour to two before the league actually starts.

The next thing you will need to get is a starter build. There you can get an app that will help you with your starter build. Also to get the build into the app you will follow these steps:

  • Find the build you want, for example, Toxic Rain Pathfinder from Zizaran youtube
  • Once you open an example build you copy the URL link that looks like that: https://pobb.in/MqBwqqTLVBhW
  • Then you need to get the app running and create a new build
  • Next, you need to go to Import/Export Build tab and paste the URL link into the very bottom empty box, and press import like in the screenshot below

After you have the build imported you need just to save it and follow the tree with it so you can focus on other aspects of the game such as league mechanics or overall game mechanics.

PoE Beginners Guide – Into the Game

First of all, you should follow the PoE beginners guide and go to the option of the game and get the filter you acquired earlier ready. You can find the filter setting in the "Game" tab second from the top is a list of filters. You need to reload the filters, select the filter you want, and save in the bottom left to apply the filter.

When you have the filter set up you can stop reading PoE beginners guide for a second and go through the rest of the settings and make your playing comfortable. After you are done you can finally select the character.

PoE Beginner Guide – Tutorial

After you created the character you are starting unconscious on the beach. Before doing anything you can take the potions you have in the equipment and put them in easier-for-you-to-use buttons. Then you need to take the weapon and equip it to start the game.

Without it, nothing will happen. You will get the weapon already with good colors for gems you will acquire in the tutorial and links so you won't need to worry about it at least in the tutorial.

After you get the weapon ready go to the guy that is lying next to the broken boat and talk to him. An enemy will start to finish him so you need to defeat it to obtain the skill gem.

After you are done go through the shoreline and click on the crate that you will pass next to, to get the support gem. Go on until you get to the "boss" of the tutorial and defeat him. Remember to use potions. They are important.

After you defeat the boss you can enter the town and start your own campaign. There the PoE Beginners Guide basically ends. Below are only things you will need to know while playing the rest of the game not only the campaign.

PoE Beginner Guide – Flasks

Flasks are one of the most important things in the Path of Exile. You pretty much use them every few seconds or with a good setup they can even apply by themselves and you don't need to worry about them, but remember to not worry and use them often.

The charges of the flasks are gained by slaying enemies and they help you slay them. The more you are in the game the better the flask you will be able to acquire or craft.

Flasks can have 3 different types of rarity:

  • Normal
  • Magic
  • Unique

Only Normal and Magic flasks can be crafted, unique ones need to be found. Flasks also can get quality that can prolong the effect of the flask.

PoE Beginner Guide – Gems

There are two types of gems: Skill gems and Support gems. They also have different colors such as Green, Blue, Red, and rarely White. As the name suggests Skill gems give you the skill you can use if you are fine with the requirements. Those are your main damage in the game. Others are Support gems and they are supporting the skill gem.

For example, if you have a Skill gem "Fire arrow" and link with it Support gem "Lesser Multiple Projectiles" your Skill gem will fire additional projectiles but deal less damage per each. There are also Support gems that increase the damage but for example, shorten the effect of burning on enemies.

To link those gems firstly you will need an item with the correct color of sockets. Those are already set as you pick up the item or you can craft them through the Crafting Bench in your hideout or with the use of a chromatic orb. With Crafting Bench you can select up to 3 sockets to be the same color. By using a chromatic orb every time you use it the outcome is random.

Items have their own priority of sockets color so you would like to look into the Vorici Calculator that will help you to find the most efficient method of making the sockets the right color.

After getting the colors right we are at the hard part. Linking the item with the orbs of fusing. This one is questionable because in Crafting Bench you can get a 6–link item that is the most desirable but it costs 1500 orbs of fusing.

You can also use them with a random outcome directly to the item which sometimes takes 100 orbs of fusing and sometimes 3000 orbs of fusing. When linking an item directly with orbs of fusing remember that the quality improves the chances of getting the best outcome.

That would be all for PoE beginners guide. Oh and one more thing. Don't be afraid of dying in the campaign if you are not playing hardcore. You will respawn in the area at the exact state you were before dying so it's not a shame to die in the campaign.

Also if you are searching for a build you will need to wait a little bit longer because those will be appearing closer to the league start which is the 9th of December. Stay good, Exile!
