Today, on March 31st, 2021 we got a 25-minute video describing the future of CD Projekt Red as a company and a game developer. We hear about the plans for Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher franchises. I will be diving more in-depth below.

CD PROJEKT Red Roadmap - 2021

 CD PROJEKT Red

Main Goals for CD PROJEKT Red

RED 2.0

The goal is to create the best environment possible for employees of CD PROJEKT Red. The company wants to be able to create multiple AAA titles at the same time starting in 2022.

  • Developing a sustainable and caring work environment
  • Redefining and empowering the CTO role
  • Rolling-out agile ways of working
  • Centralizing REDengine to serve both Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher Franchises
  • Deploying a team of cross-project experts
  • Changing approach to external communication
  • Scaling up the talent pool

The point of these changes is to combine some functions that will work in all the titles developed by CD PROJEKT Red. Parallel AAA development is the main focus of the company.

From the marketing standpoint, they are aiming at making the PR campaigns shorter. They will start a lot closer to the launch of the game. However, they might tease some projects in work a lot earlier. The footage from the upcoming games will be more polished, and the showcases of the gameplay will be conducted not only on PC but on all platforms.

Building Out CD PROJEKT Red’s Franchises

This goal is to expand both The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077 franchises outside the video games. They want to extend the reach of the franchises as presented in this picture below.

Online Expansions

CD PROJEKT Red wants to ensure that they will implement online aspects in the games and places that it fits. They want to bring the online experience to all of their franchises in the future.

CD PROJEKT Group: Strategy Update

CD PROJEKT Red Makes a Lot of Promises

The presentation made by CD PROJEKT Red is a very optimistic approach and we can just hope that it all becomes a reality someday.

They are obviously trying really hard to regain the trust of the fans and rebuild the reputation that got tarnished by the rocky Cyberpunk 2077 release.

It just shows how easy it is to ruin something you have been building for many years. I never judge the whole company by just one project, and although undeniably Cyberpunk 2077 was not the game that was promised, we can give the developers some trust credit and hope they will bring the experience of the already released game as close as possible to the promises they made during the marketing campaign and presentations of the game.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One X/S with versions on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S working due to the backward compatibility.

Both Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt are scheduled to get upgrades for the Next Generation of consoles in the second half of 2021.
