Zam is an alien from Gasmoxia, and is one of Nitros Oxide's henchmen, along with Zem. In Crash Nitro Kart, he races for Team Oxide, which in turn is affiliated with Emperor Velo XXVII. He resembles a lizard with a toad-like throat sac.
In CTR Nitro-Fueled he is classified as a Beginner character, with Turn being his best stat.
