2021 is a great year for games and even a much greater year for RPGs. Today, we will take a look at some of the RPGs set out to launch this year, with a confirmed release schedule. So, here we go!

VAMPIRE: THE MASQUERADE – BLOODLINES 2

Beginning with number five is Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2. A sequel to the original VtM – bloodlines, which launched way back in 2004. The sequel will lay more emphasis on fluid gameplay and in-depth role-playing elements and will influence the way you interact with the world. There are five clans you can choose from, namely, Brujah, Tremere, Toreador, Ventrue, and Malkavian. These clans will provide players with a wide array of abilities that they can use to survive and progress. Originally planned to release sometime in 2020, it was delayed to 2021 because of the pandemic (obviously) and allegations about the game's director.

BIOMUTANT

Biomutant is turning out to be something truly spectacular. Borrowing elements from various RPGs like Assassin's Creed, Fallout series, and more, the players can create their anthropomorphic character. Being set in a small area of 8x8 km, the game will offer a lot of verticality and players will face a lot of distinct enemies, a morality system (similar to Red Dead Redemption II, but much smaller in scope and level of depth and detail.) and many unique features. Developed by a small team of 20 people, the developer, Experiment 101 has stated that:

Any game is going to ship with [smaller] bugs, but I’m talking about bugs that are truly disruptive to the game experience. We don’t want to ship with that. I think that’s what caused us to just wait until we were ready to do it.

The long-awaited action RPG launches May 25, 2021, on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. No update on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, or Nintendo Switch versions at the time of writing.

OUTRIDERS

Outriders is a cooperative RPG being developed by People Can Fly and published by Square Enix. The game can be completed either solo or with friends (up to 2). It is quite similar to Destiny 2 in many aspects but the shooting mechanics are even better including the story and its premise. Outriders is launching April 1, 2021, on PlayStation 4|5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Stadia (hope it brings more players to Stadia!).

Outriders free demo (except Stadia) will be available on March 25th, more details here. It will include a prologue, all four classes, carry-over progressions, and much more. Hope the launch date is not a joke!

Customizing Palamutes, more emphasis on the Japanese lore and culture, upgrading weapons quickly, bringing back many monsters and so much more! More verticality and a ton of cool features that will take a whole new article to discuss everything the game has to offer. The release is just around the corner, March 26th on Nintendo Switch.

MASS EFFECT LEGENDARY EDITION

One of the best reveals of the year is Mass Effect: Legendary Edition. It is the right moment for the remastered trilogy to release as a new Mass Effect game is coming sometime in the future. While we patiently wait for the next chapter in the series, the legendary edition will fill the void for some time. Offering more details both visually and customer new creation choices, various quality of life changes include better aiming, fighting, User Interface, and a lot more. Even faster loading times will make the overall experience better than ever. Tons of DLCs will be included in this edition. Due to technical constraints, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions were not made a reality. These versions will run through backward compatibility. The edition comes May 14, 2021, on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
